A log cabin that looks the part
Smoky Retreat, managed by Eden Crest, is the Smokies cabin of the postcard: stained logs, a green roof with dormers, and a covered porch running along the front, all set on a wooded hillside outside Gatlinburg. Below the porch, a fire pit sits on the lawn with a ring of Adirondack chairs — the spot most groups end up at once the sun drops.
It’s a drive to town rather than a walk. Coffee, pizza and the downtown attractions are a few minutes away by car, and the national park is close, but nothing here is on foot. That’s the trade for trees on every side instead of traffic.
Inside: pine walls and a stone hearth
The living room rises to a vaulted pine ceiling with tall gable windows, and a stone fireplace anchors the room, facing leather sofas and an upholstered armchair. The dining table sits beside it, with the full kitchen just behind — oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker — enough to cook real meals rather than reheat them. A washer and dryer help on longer stays.
There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and its own bathroom, both dressed in plaid quilts with wood bed frames, and a staircase climbs from the living room to an upper level. One bathroom has a corner jetted tub. Out on the deck, a hot tub waits; the listing also mentions a games room, but what it names is a console and board games — no pool table or arcade, and it isn’t pictured.
Where it falls short
Sleeping six on paper, this cabin is most comfortable for two couples or a small family: the fifth and sixth guests share a third queen bed in the living room, with no door to close. And there’s no pool, indoor or out, the way some of the larger Gatlinburg rentals offer.
The hillside setting means some stairs from the lawn to the porch, and you’ll be using the car for every meal out and every trip to the Parkway. Check-in runs through Eden Crest, so send your arrival time ahead. For a small group that wants a real log cabin with a hot tub and a fire going, those are easy compromises.
