A spa house east of town
Alpine Haven sits in the wooded hills on the eastern side of Gatlinburg, a long way from the Parkway and its traffic. The aerial shot shows a dark-roofed timber house surrounded by hardwoods, with ridge after ridge stacked beyond it — the kind of setting where you stop checking the weather app and just look out.
The reason to book, though, is indoors. The house is organised around its spa: an indoor swimming pool and a sauna that the listing marks as private, plus a steam room and a hot tub. And the pool room, lined with windows onto the ridges, is a place you’d actually want to linger.
Glass walls, stone hearths, a movie room
The great room rises two storeys, with a tall wall of windows facing the trees and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace carrying the TV. Leather armchairs and deep sofas fill the floor, and a railed gallery on the upper level looks down over it all. The kitchen is a serious one — a big island with stools, a range under a black hood, open shelving, a dishwasher and a full-size fridge — and there’s a washer and dryer for longer stays.
For entertainment, there’s a game room with a pool table and a game console, and a dedicated movie room with recliners, a large screen and superhero posters on the plank walls. At least one bathroom has a jetted freestanding tub beside a glass-walled shower. Outside, the covered porch has its own stone fireplace and string lights, and the photos show a fenced playground with swings and a slide for younger guests. Four bedrooms and four bathrooms sleep up to ten.
What the distance costs you
The trade-off is location. By the listing’s own figures, the aquarium and Ober Gatlinburg are around fourteen miles away, which in mountain traffic makes downtown an outing rather than an afterthought. There are a pizza place, a diner and a coffee shop a few minutes’ drive off, but nothing to walk to.
Sleeping is three king bedrooms plus a fourth with bunk beds, so a group of ten means some guests on bunks — settle who goes where before you arrive. And with a house this well equipped and no rate on show when we checked, expect a luxury-tier bill. For a group that plans to spend most of its time in the pool, the sauna and the movie room anyway, the quiet is the point — just budget the drive for everything else.
