Cobbly Nob, east of the crowds
Mountain Haven sits in Cobbly Nob, a residential mountain community on the eastern side of Gatlinburg: you come in past golf courses on wide, paved, well-lit roads, and the cabin stands on its own lot with parking at the front steps. From the covered front porch the view runs across the street to a full ridge of the Smokies — the kind of outlook many cabins only manage from a back deck.
The trade is distance. Downtown Gatlinburg and the Parkway are about half an hour’s drive west, so every attraction, show or dinner out means getting back in the car. A pizza place and a diner are a few minutes away; anything more means the drive into town. For a family that plans to split days between the park and the pancake houses, budget for the driving.
Five bedrooms under pine and stone
Inside, it’s classic Smokies log cabin done well: pine walls and vaulted ceilings, polished hardwood floors, a stacked-stone fireplace anchoring the great room, and an open kitchen with sage-green cabinets, a stainless fridge and an island with stools. A dining table sits by French doors that open onto a deck. Upstairs, a loft looks down over the living room, and the upstairs bedrooms shown in the photos sit under the rooflines — one with a king and a desk beneath an arched window, and a tiled, glass-walled walk-in shower in the bath next door.
For a large group, the layout is the argument: five bedrooms with four queens and a king, plus two sofa beds, a game room and a theater room for when the weather turns or the kids need their own territory. A private hot tub, a barbecue and three outdoor patios give the adults somewhere to retreat. Dogs are welcome too, with possible charges.
Where a full house feels the squeeze
Fourteen guests means five bedrooms plus two sofa beds in the living room, so at full capacity some of the group sleeps in shared space rather than behind a door — worth planning before you book a full house. The upper floors are reached by stairs only, which matters for anyone with limited mobility, whatever the listing’s accessibility flags suggest.
The pool also deserves a clear word: it belongs to the Cobbly Nob community, not the cabin, and the community pools open in the summer months only. Come in autumn or winter and the hot tub is your only water. Add the drive to town, and this is a cabin for groups who want space and quiet more than convenience — which, for a big family reunion, is often the right way round.
