Room for eight in the treetops
The Moosewood is one of the treehouses in Treehouse Grove, a cluster of board-and-batten timber houses raised on posts among pines and hardwoods outside Gatlinburg. You reach the front door along a railed wooden footbridge, and the deck on the far side looks out over a forested ridge. Town and its attractions are a short drive away, and the national park borders the area.
Where its sibling The Magnolia is a compact stay for a couple or a young family, the Moosewood is built for a bigger party: three bedrooms, room for up to eight guests, and a private hot tub that the Magnolia’s listing doesn’t have. If you want the treehouse experience but need to bring more people, this is the unit to look at.
A deck, a porch and a hot tub
Outside is where the Moosewood earns its keep. The open deck is built around a living tree whose trunk rises through the boards, with lounge chairs set out facing the ridge. A screened porch, open to the leaves on every side and roofed in vaulted timber, holds a long dining table with rope-woven chairs — a proper place for the whole group to eat together. Add the private hot tub, a patio, outdoor furniture and a barbecue, and most of a stay can happen in the open air.
Inside, pale timber lines the walls and exposed beams cross the ceiling. A leather sofa faces the room, and the open kitchen along one wall is fully equipped, with oven, stovetop, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and a coffee maker under open wooden shelves. Mini-split air conditioning, heating and a flat-screen TV cover the basics, and the bedroom shown in the photos is simple and bright, with windows onto the leaves.
One bathroom stretched thin
The trade-off is plain in the listing: three bedrooms and up to eight guests, but a single bathroom. For a family that’s manageable with some patience; for a group of adults, mornings will need a rota. A steep wooden ladder climbs to the loft, which is worth knowing with small children or anyone unsteady on their feet.
This is also shared woodland rather than private acreage — the grove holds other treehouses, and parking is free on site but can’t be reserved. Pets are allowed, though charges may apply. Book the Moosewood for its outdoor spaces and its hot tub, and go in knowing the bathroom queue is part of the deal.
