A pool house on Ski Mountain
Splashtacular is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom log cabin high on Ski Mountain, a few minutes’ drive from Ober Gatlinburg and about a quarter-hour from downtown Gatlinburg and the national park. It stands in a row of similar green-roofed cabins, and from its decks the view opens over forested slopes to the high ridges of the Smokies.
What sets it apart is the lower level. Behind the stone walls sits a heated indoor pool that belongs to your group alone — blue-painted walls, a cheerful bear mural and a swim that works in any season. The host also points to seasonal community clubhouses with outdoor pools for the warmer months, shared with the rest of the resort. For a family that wants a pool at home without renting a seven-bedroom lodge, this is the right size.
Log walls, loft games and a view deck
On the main floor, the cabin is classic Smokies timber: a vaulted living room with a stone fireplace, leather sofas and glass doors onto the deck, and a dining table by the windows. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a dishwasher, coffee machine and a barbecue outside, plus a high chair and baby gates for younger children.
The loft holds a pool table under the roof beams, and the host describes the game room with bunks for the kids, a multi-arcade and a PlayStation. A private hot tub adds an evening soak, but the best seat in the house is the small gable balcony at the top, with rocking chairs and string lights framing the mountains. Pets are welcome, with a possible fee.
Where the climb and the WiFi fall short
Getting here is part of the deal. Ski Mountain’s roads wind, narrow and steepen in places, and the host recommends all-wheel or four-wheel drive when snow is forecast. Parking takes two vehicles, and everything — restaurants, shops, the park — is a drive away.
This is also not a secluded hideaway: neighboring cabins sit close on both sides, so the privacy is in the pool room, not the lot. And guests flag the WiFi as the weak spot, so remote workers should plan around it. For a family trip built around swimming, games and a view, those are trade-offs worth making.
