Leafy quiet on the gallery side of town
The Morning Mist Cabin sits on a wooded lot on the east side of Gatlinburg, away from the Parkway but hardly remote. Artist’s Attic and Black Bear Art Gallery are a few minutes by car, a log-cabin restaurant and a barbecue joint are just down the road, and the aquarium and the downtown strip are roughly a ten-minute drive. The national park’s main entrance is on the far side of town.
What surrounds the house is trees. In summer the hardwoods close in on every side, which buys real privacy; it also means there’s no mountain panorama here. If you want to watch the ridges from the hot tub, look higher up the mountain.
Pine walls, a pool table and room for six
Outside, this is a two-storey house in barn-red siding rather than a log cabin — worth saying plainly. Inside, the pine takes over: panelled walls, a vaulted ceiling with an antler chandelier over a live-edge dining table, a tiled fireplace flanked by armchairs, and glass doors onto a deck with a grill.
The two bedrooms, one with a king and one with a queen, each have their own bathroom, and one of the baths has a jetted tub. A third bathroom and a sofa bed in the living room round out the sleeping. Under a vaulted ceiling, the pool table shares a room with a sofa, a TV and a set of bunk beds — a kids’ den by design. The hot tub, free WiFi and free parking at the door cover the rest, and the dog can come too.
Where it asks for compromise
The bunks are the catch. They sit in the game room rather than a third bedroom, so whoever sleeps there turns in only when the last game of pool ends. The sofa bed is listed for one guest, not two.
A few rooms rely on window air-conditioning units, visible in the photos, which hum more than a central system. And the decor leans heavily into bears and plaid — charming to some, a lot to others. For a family that wants a hot tub, a game room and a dog-friendly base near town without paying for a view, those are fair trades. For a couple chasing a ridge-top sunset, it’s the wrong cabin.
