The Wacky Woodpecker is a detached log-and-stone house on a wooded Pigeon Forge lot. This is the busy, convenient shoulder of the Smokies rather than the far-flung one: trees crowd the hillside and give the deck real privacy, while the hum of the valley stays close below.
That location is the point. Dollywood and its theaters are a short drive down the hill, and the Parkway — the dinner shows, the mini-golf, the pancake houses — is only minutes away by car. You get a wooded base to come home to each evening, without the long mountain drive to reach a restaurant or a grocery run. What you don’t get is remoteness, or a cabin standing alone on its own ridge.
Room enough for a full house
Inside, the cabin is arranged for a group that wants to spread out. Two of the three bedrooms carry a king bed each, and the third is a bunk room; a sofa bed in the living room stretches the count further, which is how the house sleeps a family or two couples in comfort. The living room centres on a stone gas fireplace under a vaulted pine ceiling, and the kitchen is a full one — oven, dishwasher, a live-edge dining table — not a token kitchenette.
The entertainment is the other draw. A dedicated games room, video games and board games give the household somewhere to go when the weather turns, and the private hot tub waits outside for the end of the day. A washer and dryer, baby safety gates and free parking by the door round out a house that’s clearly set up for real family stays rather than a quick overnight.
The trade-offs, and what they cost you
The trade-offs here are honest ones. The lot is wrapped in hardwoods, so the outlook is leafy green rather than a long mountain view — lovely in its own right, but not the ridgeline panorama some Smokies cabins sell.
The pool deserves a clear word too: it’s the cabin’s own, but it closes for the cold months, so a winter booking leans entirely on the hot tub for water. And the third bedroom is bunks, which suits kids far better than a third couple. None of this undercuts the cabin — it’s a well-kept, well-equipped base for a group. Just book it for the space, the games room and the soak, and go in clear-eyed about the seasons.
