Ole Red Retreat earns its name the moment you pull up: brown siding, a bright red metal roof and chimney, and red-framed windows and doors, all under a canopy of tall hardwoods. It sits on the eastern side of Gatlinburg, just inside the Arts & Crafts District — a loop of working studios, galleries and small shops — with the Greenbrier entrance to the national park close by.
That location is the quiet argument for the cabin. You’re out of the Parkway crush, yet downtown is roughly ten minutes by car, and the host notes a trolley stop a few minutes’ walk away for evenings when nobody wants to drive. Don’t come for a view, though: the photos show a wooded lot, and the listing doesn’t advertise mountain panoramas.
Pine walls, a king bed and a loft upstairs
Inside, it’s knotty pine from floor to ceiling. The main level holds a living area with a sofa and armchairs, a pine dining table with a bench, a fireplace, and a kitchen with a dishwasher, oven and coffee maker. The bedroom has a log-frame king bed under a bear-themed quilt, and a tiled walk-in shower fills the bathroom shown in the photos.
Upstairs is the loft, the part families will remember: built-in beds along one wall, bean bags, a TV and a game center, plus another bed around the corner. The listing adds a game console, streaming, board games and books for children, a washer and dryer, and a hot tub for after the kids are asleep.
Where it asks for compromise
Booking lists two bedrooms, but the host describes one bedroom plus an open sleeping loft. For a family that’s ideal; for two couples it means one pair sleeps without a door of their own. Look at the alternatives if privacy matters.
There are stairs to reckon with too. Wooden steps climb to the front porch and to the side deck, and the upper floor is reached by stairs only, so this isn’t a fit for anyone who struggles with them. The hot tub is confirmed by the listing but doesn’t appear in the photos we saw, so ask where it sits if that matters to you. Beyond that, it’s an easy, well-kept cabin with pets welcome, a warm interior, and a location that keeps both the park and the town within easy reach.
