High on the Ober side of town
South Baden Drive sits on the Ober Mountain side of Gatlinburg, and this cabin makes the most of its elevated spot. From the decks the land drops away through hardwoods to a long ridgeline of the Smokies, and in autumn the whole slope below turns gold and rust. The ski area’s restaurant is a couple of minutes away by car; the Parkway, the Space Needle and Ripley’s Aquarium are a short drive down.
That drive is the first thing to know. Nothing here is walkable, and a night downtown means finding somewhere to park in town. In exchange you get the quiet and the outlook that the cabins crowded around the Parkway can’t offer.
Great room, decks and a sauna
Inside, the main room is the reason to book: vaulted timber beams, high clerestory windows, a stone fireplace running to the ceiling and two sets of French doors onto the deck. Deep sofas face the hearth, and a live-edge table seats the group next to a full kitchen with a dishwasher, oven and coffee machine.
Out on the deck, the private hot tub looks straight at the mountains, and there’s a table for meals or cards with the same view. A sauna, a game room, a pool table, a game console and streaming TV round out the evenings. One bedroom has glass doors straight out to a balcony, and laundry is on site for longer stays.
What the listing name oversells
The Booking name promises EV charging, but the property’s own facility list doesn’t confirm a charger. If you drive electric, get it in writing from the hosts before you book, or plan to charge in town. The sleeping plan also deserves a close read: two king bedrooms, a third with twin beds and a sofa bed make seven, which suits two couples with kids better than three adult couples.
Then there’s the rate, firmly at the premium end for a three-bedroom. You’re paying for the view, the sauna and a genuinely well-finished great room. If those matter less than space or budget, the alternatives below do the job for less.
